A New Year, A New Hope

Hello friends . . . grace and peace,

It was quite the experience, wasn’t it? As in, it wasn’t exactly how any of us were expecting it to go. Things got cancelled. Events didn’t happen. Maybe you lost someone. Lots of normal things looked very different. If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that change happens even if – or especially when – we’re not ready for it.

Don’t forget the changes that took place. If we try and do the whole, “Forget 2020” thing, we won’t learn as we move forward in life. God has always reminded us to remember what God has done, is doing, and will do – Past, Present, and Future. We’re all ready to move on into 2021, but we can’t fail to remember the blessings (yes, there were many) and the lessons, and the knowledge we gained in 2020. Without those things, there’s no Hope in the future. It is in remembering what WAS that gives us hope for what IS and WILL BE.

So, what IS and what WILL BE happening with the STYG (st. thomas youth group)? Well, we’re not 100% sure yet. But here are some things we HOPE will happen…

In Person D-Groups – Once the Diocesan COVID-19 Task Force recommends that in person gatherings are safe, we will begin to invite 7th – 12th graders to re-gather in the Youth Room at St. Thomas on Wednesdays from 6:15 – 8:00pm. Things will have a different look and feel but it’ll just be nice to be together again! We will continue to Zoom each Wednesday until then. styg.com/d-groups

Film School – We will not resume Film School until we are able to have zero restrictions of numbers during Sunday morning services. In all likelihood, this means that our Spiritual Formation Class for 7th – 12th graders may not return until April or May of 2021, but possibly not until September. styg.com/filmschool

Sunday Youth Group – As with Film School, our Sunday Youth Group gatherings for 6th – 12th graders will not restart until we are able to gather for Sunday morning worship without limiting the number of people. styg.com/youthgroup

Contagion – We are hoping, and praying, that our annual spring retreat for 7th – 12th graders can happen in 2021. While we have typically held this event in Door County during March or April, it could be pushed to May or even sometime during the summer. Contagion is usually a full-weekend event but that could also be changed to just a single day or 2 days with 1 night. We just have to wait and see. styg.com/signup

Summer Camp – The Diocese of Fond du Lac runs several sessions of camp for various age groups in June. Once we hear from our Diocesan Youth Coordinator about how camp might look this year, we’ll let you know. diofdl.org/camp

Love Journey – Our annual mission trip to serve others is central to how we live as a community. We are SUPER hopeful that we can return to this kind of ministry by July or perhaps August. But here’s the thing, we may not know if we CAN do a trip until April or May. For that reason, IF we do a Love Journey, it will be somewhere within a 3-hour drive. styg.com/lovejourney

Bottom line, we’ll let you know the moment we know stuff. Check your messages, watch your snaps, read your texts, etc. Keep in touch with each other. Stay connected to God, in prayer, in worship, and in being together.

peace to you
